Mike Flanagan, whose previous credits include Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House as well as the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, King’s Gerald’s Game, and King’s The Life of Chuck, is taking on another one of King’s works (in addition to the work he’s already doing on a series adaptation of The Dark Tower).

According to Deadline, King and Flanagan are teaming up once again to take on Carrie. The story already has 1976’s iconic film adaptation starring Sissy Spacek, of course (pictured above), but Flanagan is looking to make an eight-episode series for Amazon, where he’ll also serve as showrunner.

Carrie came out in 1974 and was King’s first published novel, a story that his wife, Tabitha, pulled out of the trash and encouraged him to keep writing. It centers on the titular Carrie, a high school girl who is bullied for being different. When a prank leaves her covered in pig’s blood and humiliated on prom night, she uses her telekinetic powers to bring vengeance on those who hurt her.

The project is still in its early days, so there’s no news yet on casting or when production will start, much less when it will premiere on Prime Video. icon-paragraph-end
